Research Scientist at CIRA, Colorado State University
Liaofan joined NOAA/OAR/Global Systems Laboratory as an affiliate of the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) in 2019. He is a member of the NOAA Rapid Refresh Forecast System (RRFS) implementation and operational transition team. From 2019 to 2022, he implemented the ensemble forecast sensitivity to observation impact (EFSOI) utility into the Global Forecast System (GFS) v.16 and the developing version of RRFS. Since 2022, his work has been focused on the implementation of Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI) components such as the Interface for Observational Data Access (IODA) and three-dimensional ensemble-variational (3DEnVar) hybrid analysis into RRFS as well as the EFSOI with RRFS.
