Leon Benjamin

Specializing in observational weather data processing for instruments from the ground up including meteorological and hydrological surface, aircraft, profiler, and other observations. 

Research Interests

  • Minimizing the time to move research observational data and techniques into being used operationally
  • Successfully managing moving observation data and processing techniques from research to operations

Experience

  • 2012 - present MADIS Technical Lead, transitioning and tier-3 support to successful moving the MADIS system from running in a OAR low security computer facility to a NWS high security computer facility.  
  • 2004 - 2012 MADIS team member, specializing is data processing, ingest, and distribution 
  • 1989 - 2004 NOAA Profiler Network, specializing in data processing
  • Decades of experience running 24-7-365 near real time data processing applications in low and high security computer facilities.

Awards

  • 2003 NOAA’s team member of the month for OAR for the expansion of NPN’s CAP network.
  • Member of the support team that for the federal team that was awarded the NOAA Administrator’s Award, 2015 for transitioning MADIS to operations.
