Profile

Laura McMeeking
Laura McMeeking is an Evaluation Researcher at the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA), contributing to the Fire Weather Testbed (FWT) at NOAA’s Global Systems Laboratory (GSL). Growing up in Texas, Laura experienced a wide variety of weather, from severe storms to droughts, which sparked her interest in atmospheric science and motivated her to study it further. Over time, she transitioned into social science to better understand how to help people make sense of complex scientific challenges and prepare them to be active community members. Now living in Colorado, fire weather has become particularly important to Laura, knowing friends and family in California and Colorado who have been impacted by fires. Her work at GSL blends her expertise in atmospheric science, education, and social science to enhance the effectiveness of FWT tools and positively impact communities.
