I started working in GSL in 2015, where I conducted Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) to evaluate the impacts of targeted dropsondes on winter storm forecasts. Since joining the AVID group in 2017, I have become proficient at retrospective RAP/HRRR model workflow and applied it to several projects including winter season verification of experimental RAPv5/HRRRv4 output for operational implementation, atmospheric river events impacting California, and improved boundary layer code for storms in the southeast USA. Prior to joining GSL, I studied Arctic climate at NCAR and stratospheric aerosols at CU-Boulder.

Research interests

  • Earth System modeling across a broad range of scales, from hourly mesoscale forecasting to decadal climate
  • Implementing and evaluating the impacts of both data assimilation and physics improvements on model forecasts
